Looking to pick up one of these reasonable - hoping to have change from €12k.
From searches online all of these are going to be 100k miles +.
It seems that full service history is a thing of the past with cars this age.

I could go to the UK, but there isn't a huge difference cost wise (possibly more expensive to bring in if I factor in travel costs) and the spec here is the same or better in some cases.

I had a Mondeo in my head for a while , but I think if I was to pick one of those it'd be the titanium model and then I'd deffo be heading to the UK.
Looking at the diesel model , due to fairly high mileage 10+ annually.Usually I tend to keep a car for 5 years and then shift it on.

Should I just keep plugging away and sooner or later my prince will come ? Or should I just bite the bullet and head to the UK ?

Keep plugging away. My bro was looking for a 10 year old Avensis with a budget of 3k. After viewing some right dogs with no spec and mental money, We eventually found one with a heap of extras, leather, leccy sunroof, full Toyota service history, one owner, and paid 2100 for it.

Just last week I finally picked up an 08 avensis for the mrs. I'd some time of it finding one that hadn't mega miles on it , maybe I'm just worn out from the messing that goes on with buying and selling cars.

I fully agree. Finding a genuine car in this country is tiresome. Personally I look for fixer uppers and budget accordingly, that way I know what work has been done. But the brother doesn't know a lot about cars, so I was looking for a good one for him.

10k miles a year isn't diesel mileage so think carefully.

Do your homework on any vrs. Very few have not been abused at this stage. July 08 they got the common rail engine, CEGA engine code so it's worth finding one of those over the earlier PD engines as they are less prone to problems, have a smoother power delivery and are quieter.

The seat foam can collapse with millage, air con compressors go often enough and dpf can give issues. Irish cars are better specced as standard compared to english ones but by 09 they were all the same. You do see some English ones without climate control, cruise control, armrest, mfd and rear electric windows.

They get a bit rattly with mileage too, they're not as solidly built as they seem and are very noisy when you're up to speed. If you buy right you won't lose a huge amount as they tend to sell well. If there's ones hanging around for sale there's usually a reason.

Work is talking about moving office so my current regime of getting the train daily is coming to an end. I'm rapidly noticing that some of the vrs around the place seem to have had a dogs life alright, and I'm definitely looking for the CR.
I hadn't heard about the seat foam , seems like a pretty random thing to cause hassle to be honest.
All in all , I'm pushing to throw in another few bob and move to a 09 / 10 model if I can at all. In fact by the time I find the right one , the way things are going I could have the price of a 2010 reg handy enough.

Check out the for sale section on briskoda. Usually the owners will have details of their cars in previous posts and you can put a picture together on the car easily that way.

The seat foam loses its shape with age and no longer feels like a sports seat.

Just be sure and have it checked out properly whatever you buy. I got burned by one so drive a few to get a feel for them.

    Hi MuppetCheck again.
Anything similar to briskoda for audi that has Irish members selling cars?
    Thanks
