How often do you get your hair coloured?

I was just wondering how often do people go to the hairdressers to get their hair coloured?

Recently moved from dying my own hair to hairdressers and I find my roots are showing up after 2 weeks and quite bad on 3rd week. I was thinking every 4/5 weeks would be enough but looks like I may need to go more often.

I always find that getting my hair coloured at the hair dressers doesn't last half as long as doing it at home. I did mine at home a week before Paddy's day and my hair is still perfect! When I was getting it done at the hairdresser's it would need to be done every 3/4 weeks, the roots would be desperate.

Are you getting highlights or all over colour at the hairdressers?

Your hair growth follows a cycle and some weeks will grow faster than other weeks. It's got zilch to do with getting it coloured though.

    Its an all over colour.

The issue I was having with colouring hair at home was that I was doing the roots every 2 weeks which resulted in terrible colour build up. The problem now is that going to hairdressers every 4 to 5 weeks is that my roots are going to be bad for a couple of weeks in between.

Just wondering does anyone else have the same problem?

That was me until 2 years ago, when I bit the bullet and went natural - in my case snow white! (I was 50 then) The difference is amazing. I was so fed up with roots showing after 2 weeks, that I went blonde and it just didn't suit me at all. The reaction has been very positive. After hiding under hats for 6 months or so, people came up to me to say how nice it was! My OH and son both admired it! The colour suits my skin tone perfect. Only trouble, my wardrobe needs updating, as I used wear a lot of beige and now prefer stronger colours!

Everyone's hair grows at different rates so if yours generally grows quickly, your roots will show more if the coloured hair is much lighter/darker than your natural colour.

Mine grows quite slowly so I can go longer between touch ups.

Depending on the length of your hair, you could ask for balayage where the colourist uses a freehand painting technique and go for a sun kissed highlights look to complement your natural colour? You won't have a regrowth line that way.

Every 6 months I get a half head of blonde highlights. So 2 times a year only.

Luckily my hair is naturally quite blonde anyway...and the highlights looks well enough when grown out!

I have highlights and ideally, I should be going twice a year, but I haven't been able to afford it in recent times, so at the moment it's once a year.
I'm lucky, though, that my hair colour means that when my highlights fade out, you wouldn't notice it.

am cursed with pretty much 100% grey hair at age 30 :( Been colouring it since my late teens to cover the odd grey but now I have to get it done in the hairdressers every 4 weeks 5 weeks max and there is a couple of weeks there where it still looks bad it's so annoying and so expensive.

When I was younger and the grey wasn't as bad I used to colour it myself at home every few weeks but I just found that if I wanted to cover the greys I needed to choose a shade of hair dye that was dark enough otherwise they just looked orangey and then the ends of my hair ended up going way too dark from product building up. When I go to the hairdressers I only get my roots done and then every maybe 4 months depending on how the ends look I'll get whole head.
