Lower-right background of the photo in the first link is a model of an E-2. I hadn't realised those had visited Shannon! Presumably when a carrier was in the vicinity?

CV-67 was here in 1996. I remember there were a few carrier aircraft on display on the Westair ramp.

As of today I have given permanent load of some memorabilia my late grandfather left me, he worked in Shannon airport for 50years from the very beginning and I owe my love of aviation to him, I'm certain he'd approve of his collection going back to SNN.

if anyone is in the airport its wort a visit and gives an idea of the huge variety of aircraft that have visited Shannon over the decades!

this display area is upstairs beyond security in what was a old shop iirc. So you'd need a ticket to get to view the collection, sure buy the cheapest oneway u can and then go back out trough security. As far as I know folks could be a much easier way in.

This post made me smile, thanks.

    All the best

Definitely think I'm going to pay a 'flying' visit to SNN soon, what with this and their spectator area.

Have you never been in SNN before? Interesting airport, full of history. I'm sure some of the staff would have a chat with you about things if you asked them, have never came across an unfriendly staff member there.

Nope, and just it being on Irish soil makes it a good shout for me

If you or anyone does go, post a close up pictures here, hard to identify the planes as the quality is fairly low.

In my plane spotting days, I used to camp there during the summer, way before the days of mobile phones or internet, there was something so incredibly innocent about getting woken up by an Ilyushin in the middle of the night.

You'll have to do that again as a one off sometime, only now via the wonders of technology you live stream to us and we run up a thousand odd pages of talking about it :P

If you camped out near Luton you could have bets on whether you'd be mugged, murdered or be mistaken for doggers.

one very special item I gave today but retained ownership of was a AirFrance Concord display model signed by the test crew, it was mase by thesame people who built the real concord quite big about 6ft long.

I made sure they understand that comes home to imurdaddy!! Ha

These guys were also transit visitors at all hours of the day and night (the photo having been taken from close to where people camped in those days):

I have to figuratively doff my hat to you.

I had the opportunity (through a mate who is EI staff) to donate some stuff I had to Aer Lingus for their 75th anniversary back in 2011. I was put off by their "send it to us with your name and address on the box" attitude. Personally I would have been a lot happier to physically hand it to an named individual who I could contact later.
I later saw pics of the display they had at their birthday bash and felt a little anguish that I hadn't let them have my stuff. However I never got a sense of security about the 1950-1970's stuff I had. (hidden in my garden shed!)

Fair play to you for being brave and generous at the same time.

@Tenger, I got a signed invoice of everything I gave, all above board! Like im happy to let them have it for as long as the display is in place no bother, but not for a month long display and the lads working there split the collection between them, I made it clear that if it turns out to be temporary thing I want it back, and they were happy with my term's, but as I say if its permanent they are welcome to keep the collection as long as necessary,

if you're thinking of giving something they will photography everything and document it all, I was pleased to see it been handled professionally.

Ha I did bring in a box of junk and broken models first just to test the water :)

My Grandfather would be trilled to see his collection on display in the very place he accumulated most of it!!

No Concorde in there, or did I miss it? No A380 either or 787 from more recent times! Looks like a brilliant display though. I'm flying in July so I'll try to pop in early for a look
