    Well lads,
Was thinking about buying some square hay bales for next winter as its cheap at the moment. Just wondering would they be ok for next winter or go off? If they'd be ok what would the feed value be like? And do many people feed hay only over the winter?
Also is 1 round bale about the same as 10-12 square ones?
    Cheers!

Should be Fine in storage. Depends on what baler but around 12 bales to a round bale is about right could be upto near 20 sometimes

If it's stored inside will be perfect,I always thought 10 to 12 per round bale but open to correction

I've often used 3 year old hay. Was still perfect in every way. Not sure about older then that though. It's the quality of the thing at the start determines a lot.

The only thing is that it completely dries out.

No harm to bait up the place where you are storing it as the mice will have a field day with the strings especially during the summer when they will be breeding like mice :(
