Just thought I'd post this as I'm completely overwhelmed with the goodwill I have just experienced. There are enough bad news stories out there, I just thought I'd share a happier one.
Ireland has become a scary place. People keep themselves to themselves, don't know their neighbours, social media has taken over, a young man can't even go to a park and take a few snaps of JCBs without thugs setting on him (Paul Deaton assault) ... The list goes on and on.
On January 2nd this year a young Cavan man was killed in a car accident in New Zealand. Within 24 hours the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust were in touch with the family and set the ball rolling from there. They did everything. Organised and paid for anything that was required to get this young man home. His family, in the pits of their despair, had all technicalities taken care of and their son was home in less than 8days.
Kevin Bell was killed in New York 2 years ago and since his family set up KBRT, only 22months ago BTW, they have brought home 70 Irish people. SEVENTY in less than two years!
They receive no funding from either British or Irish government and there is no obligation on families to return funds spent on their loved one.
However today in Cavan there was a huge tractor run fundraiser for KBRT. Well over 450 tractors registered, buckets on the streets, donation cards filled everywhere, hundreds of volunteers helping with food, refreshments, BBQ, stewarding etc.
The generosity and goodwill I have witnessed today has done me the world of good and has restored my faith in Ireland and it's people.
