I'm in a minimum wage job and wanting to get qualifications behind me (mechanic) , applying for apprenticeships should I tell them I'm currently working or will that effect my chances?

Absolutely tell them you're workin. It looks far better than saying you're doing nothing! Just say that you have to get a weeks notice.

+1 on this tell them, it shows initiative. But be honest them and tell them how much notice you need to give your current employer.
