Help with calibration of old Omitec gas analyser

    Hi all,

I'm not sure where to put this so apologies if it is in the wrong place. There's an old Omitec OM4000 gas analyser at home from when my father was in the trade, it's probably nearing 15 years old at this stage.

As far as I recall, this had to be 'calibrated' every 6 months to ensure acuracy and it would stop working if this was not done. It has not been used now in a number of years and I am looking to get it re-commissioned soon if possible as it would be of great use to get an idea where the emissions are at on a classic I will be getting road legal, before it goes for NCT.

Does anybody know who could reset this machine or can someone point me in the direction of someone that could help? There is a small slot at the front of it where as far as I can recall a special card was inserted and used to reset the timer as such or 'calibrate' it is the terminology used by the machine. It also has a serial and aux port on the back of it but I don't think these are used to reset it.

Many thanks in advance for any help received!

    Hi all,

I have an Omitec OM4000 which I would like to have calibrated or the calibration mechanism removed. Can anyone recommend someone? Machine is based in Waterford but I am willing to travel.

    Hi all,

I have an Omitec OM4000. This requires calibration on an annual basis to ensure accuracy as it can be used for MOT purposes in the UK. I am unable to find someone to re-calibrate this. Is anyone able to assist me with either calibrating it so that it runs for a further year or perhaps permanently? I have attached a picture of it for reference purposes.

Have you failed to find any company that calibrates emissions equipment or have you failed to find someone for that specific machine?

Did you get in touch with the manufacturer to ask?
Either maybe they can guide you, or at least get you in touch with others with the same equipment who maybe can guide you.

    Google Turned up: http://www.4ie.ie/c/59451/gemco-garage-equipment-ltd-belfast

Belfast office so you may need to take it up to them.

I have failed to find someone for this specific machine, it's probably 10-15 years old.

No I haven't tried that. To be honest, they were never much use any time we were in contact with them. It was always much more convenient to deal with a third party than them but I may give it a try.

Thanks for that. I hadn't come across them but I might ask them. It's a bit of a trek but it may be worth it!

Could you take readings with your machine from a car that has just sat it's NCT? It would be some sort of calibration anyway.

When these machines decide they need calibration they won't give any readings at all.

OP, I can check who does the calibration of our machine (sticker is on the machine itself but I can't remember the name) but our's isn't an Omitec so not sure if it will be of any use to you.

    Hi George,

Thanks for the offer. I've found someone who will do it but the price is steep and it's only for private use so I just need to decide if it's worth taking the plunge :)
