hi, wondering if anyone could offer some advice.

Im looking to find the original market value of a 2007 volkswagen golf
comfort line 1.4. Trying to sort out my benefit in kind for work. I can't seem to find anything on the internet, keeps giving me prices for used 2007 models.
ive also tried searching for old VW brochures from 2007 but they have no prices inside.
Does anyone know what they might have sold for, or know a way of looking this up? do you think if i rang a VW dealer they could tell me?

    thank you
    - i have searched through old threads and couldn't find an answer, so apologies if this has been asked before. :)

The VRT calculator should be able to give you the OMV of that car - it's going to be >€20k. I'd be shocked that it would be worth taking use of such a car from an employer as the BIK is based on that historic price rather than the value of the car. It's going to be expensive - unless you ahve large business mileage, I'd be surprised if it wasn't cheaper to accept a cash equivalent of the cost from your employer, if avaioable.

They have a use for something!

    They've historical price lists from can't 2002.

Can't link from the phone, but they aren't too difficult to find.

The revenue website gives a value around €3100, I'd imagine the value would go up or down depending on mileage. Oh and btw, that's a ballpark figure, Im guessing they're going for more on donedeal if your buying from dealer or privately.

thank you for all the replies, i'll try the VRT site (will that show what the car would have been bought for in 2007) and the SIMI site.

Its not a company car, its my own private car that i now have to use for work. Have to pay for my own insurance, tax etc. one of the girls from work has given me a form from the revenue so i can claim back motor expenses. Doubt i will be alle to claim back much, but every little helps.

i bought the car second hand, so just trying to figure out how much the original owner would have paid for it. then try root out all my petrol receipts from the last year :)

Is your company paying expenses in line with civil service rates?

If it's not an employer provided vehicle then I cannot see why you need the OMV of the car as no BIK arises as your employer has not provided you with the vehicle. I think you're on a misguided errand.

im working in the public sector- Not sure what the rates are. i just know some of the girls have been able to claim for wear & tear on their private owned cars they have to use for work daily.

Standard practice for use of your own car is to get a milage rate that covers running costs and wear and tear

The form is for employees who don't get reimbursed for business use of their car.As a public sector worker, this hardly applies to you does it?

to be honest I'm only in the job since before xmas, I'm not too sure how it all works. i know we get approx 20 euro a week for mileage. one of the girls just gave me the form.

i'll have to look into it more and talk to my boss on monday.

I wouldn't be moving my car an inch for official business for 20 quid a week.
The rates are in the link http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/it/leaflets/it51.html

thank you for the link, i'll take a look through that.

yeah i know not a great amount for mileage, but i only cover a small area driving around.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,472 ✭✭✭vandriver

Your 20 would cover 51 km on a small engine, and 43 km on a medium engined car per week.
Have you told your insurance company that you are now doing business mileage, and indemnified your employer?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 128 ✭✭dublingirl83

yeah i let them know, as had to get a letter of indemnity for the job.
also ment i had to change to class 2 insurance (because of carrying equipment and occasionally taking another person with me in the car)which increased the premium :(

    What mileage are you doing?
How would you do the job if you had no car(or it was unavailable)?

every day is different, depends how many calls i have that day. some days could be up to 15-20km another day i might not have to leave place of work at all.

i would need to have a car in order to do the job (knew that driving my own car would be a large part of the job before i started), but say if my car broke down- i would have to get someone else to cover my calls

If you get a flat rate of €20 a week, its taxable!
