Hi everyone, firstly bear with me as I'm not very mechanically minded but I'm trying to learn. I own a jd 6200 and noticed a diesel leak when it's running. For anyone who uses jds it's coming from the left hand side to the left of the filter...from what looks like a bleeder screw?? The screw is holding in a wire with a steel head. I have tried to tighten the screw but I don't want to put too much force into it in case I damaged the housing thread.

Anybody got any idea how I could fix it...stupid question but don't suppose I could use plumbers tape??

Any tips would be great and thanks for reading....

    Hi foxy,

I will take a pic in the morning but as far as I remember it's the first bolt u can see directly to the left of the diesel pipe that has the covering on it.

Will upload it in the morning, cheers

    hi foxy

i have attached pic...its the screw on the left...u have one too but i think its a bolt and nut on yours. anyway major issue since ....the diesel leak got worse so i took the screw out and put in a plastic washer but when tightening the screw the head came off...now the rest of the screw is inside....do you know is it possible to remove this unit and get a new one??? do you know what its called???

    thanks

Thats the stop solenoid on the injector pump. When you turn off the key that operates and cuts off the diesel supply to the injectors. I'd say that you'd remove it with a spanner or socket. Disconnect the battery first. Just be careful when taking it out for fear of springs or small pieces. Haven't seen one of them out myself. JD dealer or engine repair shop should have them. Get any details you can off the plate on the pump. Then make a few phone calls.

    Hi foxy

Went to a local jd dealer and picked up the part new. Around 50 euros. Got it in today and working fine. The old one looks to have a crack at the bottom which explains the leak. To be honest this one looks a lot better as it's got a nut connection to the wire similar to your own rather than screw and washer.

Thanks again for all your help, appreciate it

    Hi foxy
Quick question..have you ever had a problem with your 6400 loosing revs. I use the hand throttle and as I'm driving the revs just reduce. Has happened a few times now when I'm driving and when I went to start it today it sounded dodgy. Any advice??

    Thanks

How long since a diesel filter change.? Could be air getting into fuel line as they are rubber and will perish over time. Or it could be injector pump. I hear of lads complaining of sludge in the tank. The lift pump gets blocked and eventually burns out.
The lift pump can be got out by lifting the floor mat inside the left hand door. Take off the round plate thats held down with 4 philips screws. Pull apart the electrical connector with the 3 wires going to the tank. Mark one of the pipes and note its position. Shift the pipe clips back along the pipes and then pull off the pipes
Thers a plastic collar holding the pump unit screwed to the top of the tank. Open this off and pump can be removed. As you pull it out you'll find something resisting. This is the float for the fuel level. Its spring steel so will bend without damage just take it gently as not to damage the sender unit.
When you get it out first look at the screen on the pump. If theres a slimy substance on there there's sludge in the tank. 6400s are at least 18yrs or older so some sludge is to be expected so flushing the tank or getting an additive to put in the tank might solve it.
