I am 19 and living in the Kildare area and im desperatly trying to get an apprenticeship in motor mechanics, its all i want to do in life! and i have a fair bit of knowledge about cars already i just need to be thought profesionally so i can continue up in the trade. I have been trying for the last 2 years to get one, or even to work in a mechanics sweeping floors to get some sort of expierience. im just asking if anyone knows a garage that would be kind enough to take me on, or could give me ANY advice on getting one in Ireland or abroad. I am literally desperate at this stage..

    Thank you!!

It's tough, you can search earlier threads but it's very very hard to get in somewhere.
I assume you've tried just about every garage in the county?

Have you physically gone around to every local garage to talk to them in person? If not do that straight away, sending in cvs etc is a waste of time. After that offer to work somewhere free for a month as a kinda trial. Lots of garages have had there hearts broken with crap apprentices so are very wary of taking any on.

Lastly be absolutly positive it's what you want to do. From personal experiance it's a crap job with crap pay unless your willing to spend every free second doing nixers. I left the tools about a week after I got my papers

JC01, i went around to every one with a CV.. i only talked to a few of them and actually explained my situation. to be honest i dont care about the pay, i wont have to work a day in my life if i work in a mechanics, i just love cars. any garages around in particular that are looking??

Go back and actually talk to the boss in any places you havnt already. 9 times outta 10 it's more a question of the boss likeing you than what your cv says as to whether hel take a punt on you for a trial month or two.
I'm in a totally different area of the industry now so I don't know any off hand bar Nissan who are doing a recruitment drive in the dealers. Personally I trained in HGVs would you consider that as an option?

And trust me I said the same. It wears very thin very fast. I fell outta love with cars so much I gave up on them altogether in my final year and had a starlet recker for running about. That was coming from always having fast powerful cars. I was so fed up of mechanics after a weeks work I wouldn't have the heart to touch my own in the evenings or at the weekends. I only started back with proper cars of my own when I changed jobs.

Edit: I was typing while Nissan was mentioned
