First time going to crit last night and got a bit confused on last lap. The a1/2 group caught us and on the last called us to sit up and not contest the last lap. We were told at the start that there will be placing for first a1 a2 and a3. Not giving out just not sure what was supposed to happen. Should we have done an extra lap or kept riding hard instead of sitting up. As I said before just trying to get info as it was my first crit.

The a 1,2,3 groups started together so if you were "caught" what it actually means is that you were lapped.

Normally in a crit you would be pulled out of the race prior to being lapped but because it is a training league run on a private road we allow people to stay in and get their training done... last night because so many lapped riders tried to jump onto the leaders on the second last lap it made if difficult to manage the finish as we were still withe the leaders who had lapped us and could have interfered with the result in the sprint. What was being requested in the group was that we let the leaders through to get a gap so we could continue with our own race.

Many riders did not listen to those instructions which were being issued from senior riders and so a blanket finish had to occur on the same lap as the leaders... Although there were other riders who had been lapped more than once and they were excluded in the results.

Last night was unusual in the power of the front group... Kelly, Gater, o'loughlin, hahessy etc... so that made it difficult to manage on a short circuit. The gaps are not usually that big at the finish.

Thanks for the response. In my inexperience I did ride on at the end as I was following the others. So I hold my hands up to that. I was the guy with the white giant with black and orange jersey

Yep you rode well. And there were plenty of experienced guys there who should have known better. We will make sure the rules and etiquette are spelled out on the start line next time.
