Poor Physio Experience

I sprained my ankle sometime early last week and couldn't see my regular physio as he was out of the country.

I saw a physio in Tower, Co. Cork who was unable to diagnose the issue and gave me a couple of stretches to do, told me to stop running but I could walk away on my ankle and use the elliptical trainer in the meantime and was charged 50 Euro for the privilege.

The pain has become worse and I'm now on crutches and seeing another, competent physiotherapist for treatment.

Are physiotherapists regulated or is there anyone I can bring a complaint to in this regard? I've already spoken to another member of staff in the clinic who was very unhelpful and dismissive.

Sorry to hear you're worse than before if on crutches. I would have thought that you are better off with original physio (presuming they are the same company? ) and follow up complaint as I'd expect /hope that they'll take care of you and not charge you for repeat visit since it is due to first incompetency.

Oh and they should all be registered.

I did get in touch before arranging an alternative physio but the physio I spoke to in the original practice was really arrogant and dismissive and I didn't have the wherewithal to push it and wanted to focus on getting my foot back in action.

I feel a bit aggrieved though that I could have started healing up a bit sooner had I not received such poor treatment initially.

My physio is in that clinic. I find him very knowledgeable and only go to him. I was recommended orthotics by someone there over the phone based on my symtoms without even seeing me when he was away. He stopped that happening. At the time I was pissed cause I thought they would help but he was right I didn't need them.

Physio and doc, its hard to find a good one tbh. Just because they have the title does not make them any good. We may all be runners but ...

50 Euro is normal cost of a chartered physio in Cork. More expensive in Dublin.
I am going tomorrow to this clinic as I have an long term shoulder issue that I need worked out every few months.

I have no issue paying 50 Euro for appropriate treatment however that wasn't the case.

I think we are talking about the same male physio and it was he that I spoke to with regards the poor treatment. I have previously attended sessions with him however I will never return to that clinic again and will be recommending anyone I meet to avoid.

one thing to think about in the future. If you are a runner you should seek out a physio that is also a runner. He/she would obviously be more in tune with the niggles and injuries that are common amongst runners.

I recently had treatment at the Bon Secours in Cork, due to injury, and was very happy with the treatment. There was a lot of hands on treatment and the option for accupuncture was also there. Instead of identifying one root cause for my problem several possible causes were identified and worked upon. I was also shown body charts of exactly where my problem was and how other muscles affect my problem. All in all I am very happy with the physio team there I left fully mended and much more knowledgable and, yes, I am back training.

My regular physio works with the Munster Rugby team so no concerns for his capability now or in the future.

Unfortunately not always immediately available hence having to go to Cork Therapy Centre in Tower last week. A mistake I won't be repeating.
