    Hi,

First of all apologies as I know this topic has been asked a lot but I didn't want to resurrect old threads. I'm mostly clear on the differences between the two, but I'd just like some clarification on a few things and advice on what to do.

I've been considering a career in management information systems in the US, and I'm wondering which of the two would be better suited to pursue this. I know enterprise computing may seem like the obvious choice but to my knowledge it doesn't offer a year abroad option which would be a big deciding factor for me.

1.Is it possible to do INTRA in the states as part of Enterprise Computing?

    2. Are there any partner institutions in the US for the year abroad as part of Computer Applications, and if so what are they?

    3. Can you get work placement as part of the year abroad in Computer Applications?

    4. Do many CA/EC students do J1s, and if so how does that work? Is it possible to get hired for the position full time straight after college?

    5. Which of the two degrees would be better suited to working in the US?

    Thanks,

Hi Magnate, I'll attempt to answer some of these questions, I'm a CA student, but I'm also familiar with EC.

Firstly, third year in CA/EC is our "year abroad". It is your INTRA placement.

    1) Yes. But I'm nearly sure you need the company you want to work with to reach out to DCU. Further reading http://www.computing.dcu.ie/undergraduate/ec/intra-work-placement

    2) As far as I am aware no. I'm not aware of any partner institutions that the School Of Computing in DCU has.

    3) Yes. INTRA placement is available for CA.

    4) Most students would do INTRA in Ireland or Europe. Not many would go to the States because it is expensive, but if you get a company willing to back you, by all means! Yes, many CA students get jobs from their INTRA. Also Computer Applications is a well respected degree within the industry. If you do well, you are bound to get job offers.

    5) It more so depends on what you want to work as, not location. CA is mainly based on Software, but it streams into Networks, Internet, Operating Systems, AI etc. Whereas EC is a mix of business and software engineering. Take a look at the prospectus for EC and CA.
