Just called up my insurance company seeing its renewal time, last year was 280euro with 10yrs no claim. This year its 450euro!!!! Phoned up IMV thinking they'd beat this only to find they are 490!!! Can anyone explain why this is because I just get hit with bullsh1t from the companies. While I'm here, would there be any insurance companies out there matching last years quote or are they all up this year?

I don't understand why these threads keep appearing.

Your insurer can offer you whatever level of renewal premium they wish. They have no requirement to remain competitive or attractive.

You need to contact as many alternatives providers as you can, find the best deals, and if you can make it competitive.

Having said all that premiums are rising as the insurance market hardens.

Well said Henry, nobody is joined at the hip to their current insurer (unless you've a poor record)

I renewed mine last month. It went from 600 - 750 with Allianz. Tried many different companies, some wouldn't insure me, some quoted over €1000 but only found 3 who got a better quote.

Cover in a click and quote devil quoted me 700. Meanwhile 123 quoted 438 for fully comp. A few others on here have found them to be the cheapest. Perhaps call them(if not a competitive quote) and then a google search to find other companies.

    Best of luck.

I think setting out commuting as a separate facility from the usual social, domestic and pleasure is a relatively new stunt over the past couple of years, yes. Another thing to watch, the bastards.

I jump ship every year, it's the only way to keep the premium down.

Ring every broker and insurer google can find. Good luck.

And how will they decide if you were commuting when you crashed?

Dunno. I suppose they'll note the time, location, direction, employment status, yadda yadda.
