    Hi,

We had an Eircom Technician out as we were having problems with our broadband.

He said he separated the lines - with have CAT5 in the house and an alarm dialler that uses the land line.

Now what is happening is that when the a call connects on the landline the upstream SNR drops - and the router will reboot. I know the SNR drops as I have tested it and refreshed the page will having the landline in use. The upstream SNR drops to 0.3 and to zero when the router will reboot. If I end the call the SNR increases accordingly.

The line comes into the house in the hall where the dialler for the alarm is - this is filtered. The NTU is in the sitting room and we have the phone in the kitchen where there is another socket.

Any ideas what the technician has done wrong with the wiring?

Sounds like there is a problem with your internal cabling. You may need to move the ntu back to the hallway, this could be difficult if you have an alarm fitted.

The thing is it was working fine when 1st installed. I had enquired about getting me moved to a DP across the road which was closer to the cab as at the moment the cable comes in overhead from the back of the house and goes around the world for sport to the cab. So theu came out and did the survey. A pole would need to have been placed in the garden which I was against. Anyway, they worked on the cables in the hall which there was no need to and then the alarm dialler wouldn't work! So they came back to fix and now dialler is working but I have the above problem which wasnt there originally!! So they have linked something incorrectly!
