Alternative to Eircom F1000 Modem/Router ?

(See thread - How do I open a port on F1000).

At it over a week now, and can't get a port to open on Eircoms F1000 modem. I have unlocked it, latest firmware etc etc. Tried everything.

Eircom Tech. support failed as did an network expert.

Need to get a decent alternative to VDSL2 (same specs as Eircoms).....

    ADSL/VDSL
    VDSL1, VDSL2. Profiles 8a, 8b, 8c, 8d, 12a, 12b, 17a.
    ADSL1, ADSL2, ADSL2+. Annex A, I, L, M.
    G.INP & G.vector

Without the ADSL if possible, but not essential.

    Thanks.

    M.

The choices are about 4 modems, whatever you but needs to support vectoring (very few) or it will not work at all. As I said in the other thread Eircom are now using F2000 modems made by Huawei. A better option that most do is to bridge what you've got and add a better cable router for better routing options, pick yourself up a Tp Link Archer C7 or something else decent

Does that support vectoring? I see no mention of it in the specs http://www.tp-link.com/en/products/details/cat-15_TD-W8980.html#specifications

There have been threads here before of people who went out and bought routers that support VDSL2 but could not get then to work because of not supporting vectoring

Tp Link Archer C7 (works with vectoring also?)..

    Thanks.

Just that I cant see that on both the specs of the 2 modems mentioned here.

Any way to get eircom to replace the F1000 with the F2000 if you're still in contract?!

You need to keep your existing eircom F1000 router and you will be disabling the wifi on it and bridging it so that you use the Archer as your wireless access point. Therefore the Archer doesn't need to support vectoring or even VDSL or ADSL.

    Course. Yes. Thanks.

    (was not awake yet!)

ps: I might just stick with a linksys or netgear or other such well known routers, why? Better supported online, more documentation. Doing a bit of research now.

Lots of support on here for the Archer C7/8/9, UPC customers have been recommended it as it's one if the few can cope with anything near 240mbit over wireless. Lots of threads if you search

    GOT IT WORKING..................!!!

    8 Days later!!!

The thing with opening ports, they don't show open UNLESS you have some device listing to it! OMG!

Thanks to Dermot for the help.

Now I need a static IP from Eircom !

    YIPPPEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    M.

ps: anyone with Eircom F1000 modems, I highly recommend you unlock your modem and upgrade to latest firmware. Eircom is way behind. You will see good improvement on web pages loading up and no problems opening ports!

    Yay!

I'm a bit tech illiterate when it comes to networking. How do I upgrade the firmware on the F1000?
