Dell Inspiron N5010 screen problem

About 2 weeks ago my laptop BSOD'd and upon resarting it, the screen remained blank and a series of 8 beeps sounded repeatedly. When I googled this it indicated that it is likely an LCD screen failure. I tried all of the suggested diagnostic steps, firstly, hold D key on startup to initiate the LCD BIST... still produced a blank screen. Then I connected an external monitor via the VGA port and that worked, which suggested that the graphics card was ok, so I figured that confirmed it was the screen gone and ordered a replacement.

New screen arrived a few days ago and I fitted it, turned laptop on and nada. Still blank screen and 8 beeps. After this I opened the laptop completely to make sure there were no loose cables internally and everything seemed fine.

So here I am now, at a loss as to what to try next to isolate the problem. Anyone have any suggestions?

The 8 beeps would lead me to think this is a motherboard issue and not a screen failure of some kind.

What happens when you boot with an external monitor connected? Do you hear the same beeps? Is the machine stable? Can you reboot multiple times without issue?
