Should water be boiling when heated by immersion?

Landlady had a cowboy come fix our immersion which wasn't switching on at all. It turns on now but the water literally boils when it's heated. Afraid of my life the kids will get burnt. I take it it's not right? And if not is it a plumber or electrician I need??

There's a thermostat sticking into the boiler which can be adjusted easily it's probably up to Max, reduce it a little.

How do you he was a cowboy, did he arrive on a horse?

Random is correct but exercise obvious caution. Isolate power first. Remove cover from immersion. And finally a small flathead screwdriver is used to reduce the stat setting to around 65-70'C. That said, the stat may be fecked. If that's the case, just remove the 2 wires to the stat itself, pull it out of the housing, and get a replacement from any decent plumbing supply store. 2 minute job.

If the water is that hot it is a safety issue. Get the landlady to get it fixed properly - I'm sure she doesn't want a compensation claim for a child being scalded. Do not remove any covers to make any adjustments yourself but there may be an obvious dial where you can adjust the max temperature yourself.

If it is *actually* boiling, the thermostat isn't switching off and needs replacing. Or maybe your 'cowboy' wired it up wrong.

I've seen this before. If it's boiling and the stat is not turning the immersion off - I'd say the stat has been bypassed.
