Which bmw 2.5k ?

I'm looking for a bmw, with 2.5 k budget, year would be 2002-2004/5 depending on the models and mileage.

I would like something as reliable as possible and 2.0 or under for costs and tax.

Any advice on best value, 3 series or 5 and anything to avoid in this price/age range. Looking to pick something up quite soon, thanks

There'll be no 5 Series in that price with less than a 2.2 engine, unless you want an underpowered 2.0 pre facelift E39. Reliability wise, a 2.5 M54 engined BMW is generally very reliable, the 2.0 318's are very good too with decent go with 140hp.

All depends on if you want big tax or not.

the 520 would be your best bet IMO. Different league of a car compared to the 3 series and the 6 cylinder engine is far more robust than the 2 litres...
