BVD Tags Missing Sample

Just a note to make you all aware that if you get a notice that your BVD sample was empty, the tag provider will try to make you pay for a replacement. However, object strongly and advise them that this is a faulty tag situation & that they need to replace the tag for free. If you hold firm that IF their product was defect free then when used with THEIR applicator there is no way the sample could be empty, especially if the tag is now correctly attached to the animals ear.

did you try this? I was of the assumption that any empty sample meant the sample had fallen out between calf being tagged and the sample being put in the cover, would be hard to blame eurotags for that

If you know this is what happened to your sample, that's fine, however to suggest that is the general reason is an assumption that I don't feel is likely given my own personal experience using the tags.

I check the barrel of sample for tissue every time. If its empty i have the hole punch handy. Saves a lot if bother.

Is this the last year for the BVD tags? Was it supposed to be for 3 years or have I got it wrong?

You'd want to clean the punch well between samples.

I see according to the article that over 600 animals with BVD status were held on farms. In this weeks comic I see where the department intend to publish these names. Will this stop the rot.
