    Hi everyone

When i flush my downstairs toilet then there is a loud vibration that goes on while the cistern is filling.

if i open the cistern and just place my hand on the ballcock then the sound goes. I can actually feel the vibration in a tap in my kitchen

Any idea what is at fault here ? Should i swap out the ballcock and handle ?

    Thanks for any help

I had the exact same thing. Great crack when friends are over. I replace the ballcock myself and it still happened. Had a plumber friend of mine up turning the downstairs toilet into utility as it was big. He put the toilet under the stairs. He said it was the water pressure was too strong I think. He did something and its perfect now. So ballcock replacement might not sort it. Its one sound I don't miss:-)

I've a similar issue with the downstairs toilet, though it only happens sometimes. This toilet is directly below the hotpress and above that is the water tank, so maybe it is pressure... As the house is timber-frame, the noise can reverberate quite loudly!

    Sounds like an air lock

I thought an airlock would stop water flow though?

In that thread, I see somebody mention water-hammer, which is perhaps more likely.

Replaced the ball valve washer and sound is gone

However the toilet won't stop filling now- even when I raise the float then it keeps going

    Any ideas ?
