40 new positions are being created in Thurles as part of wider plans to develop a major green energy hub in the county.

These new high grade positions in Thurles are being announced by Premier Green Energy as it advances expansion plans at the site of the former sugar factory.

The jobs, hiring for which will start from October, involves engineering posts and will be assigned to activities related to applied research for third level institutes and industrial partners arising from PGE's ongoing association with the Technology Centre for Biorefining and Bioenergy.

Making the announcement Environment Minister and Tipperary TD Alan Kelly described it as very positive for Thurles particularly as they are being created by a local company which has a huge commitment to the area.

Kelly claiming credit again just like the CCTV in Thurles (which was funded by Thurles Town Council, Pobal and TCOC in 2004!) but worth a mention on here if you know anybody in the renewable energy sector looking for work.
