What is the best way to insulate a cavity block wall?

    I have a stand alone garage that I want to insulate because I want to use it as a gym/playroom. It is cavity block construction so it would be very hard to heat. What would the best way to internally insulate the wall? The back of the garage isn't plastered outside (access issue) so the back wall can get slightly damp if it gets wet outside.. What would be the best way to overcome that issue?

    A breathable insulation material might be your best bet but:

    when you say 'access issue' can you explain further ?

    Is this between two buildings/walls
    Is this space dry? Could it be capped and made dry?
    Could it be filled with bonded bead insulation?

    If you absolutely can't render that wall then you could "do a timber frame" type detail. That would mean making up and insulated wall of 100x 50mm timber frame work , insulated and covered on the hidden side with a breather membrane. Make the frame(s) up on the ground then offer them up staying min 50mm back from the block work.

    Very important - before you do install the frames form plenty of vents in the block wall using something like these
