Why don't the two genders play each other at international or other levels?

Chess is not a game of physical strength or am I missing something?

Judit Polgar was in the top ten in the world and never played in women's tournaments. Hou Yifan of China would beat every man in Ireland fairly easily. In general, men are stronger players than women but we don't know whether it's because of general intelligence or because men are more likely to become maniacally focussed and committed to the game. Who knows? Polgar at least proved that if a woman works as hard as a man she can become one of the best in the world too.

I reckon as more women get interested in chess we will see a bigger gender mix at the top. No reason why women can't be as good as men.

Its just at the moment more men take up chess.

They do. Female only events exist to promote the women's game, but there's nothing to stop women competing in any event they choose. The problem is there are very few women players who are anywhere near the level of the top male players. Even Hou Yifan, the highest rated woman in the world, would struggle to make the Chinese Olympiad team currently.

There are simply more men than women.

    Theres only one reason...........
If woman and man plays in a tournament,

It will never be called a chess tournament anymore...
    It will be called...

At most levels tournaments are either Open to both sexes or Female only. I am not aware of any male only tournament.

In many parts of the world, females don't get an education, married young, social norms, etc.

The reason is too complex to give you a single answer and would certainly vary per country and region.

In Ireland (as of Jan 2015) there are 746 Male players (96%) and 31 female players (4%).
    Juniors wise - 155 Male players (90%) and 17 female players (10%).

This paper seems to indicate that a female player playing a male player of similar rating (but believing to play another female player) plays on par with the male player. However, once the gender is known, the female player plays at a poorer performance. This could be a factor as to why female ratings are generally lower than male ratings.

Has there ever been a case where a man and a woman had sex during a tournament game with each other. Only one clock would be ticking and much would depend on who made their last move.
