    Hi all,

Quick question. I recently applied for a course(level 7 ordinary degree, 3 years) that was under review. It has since been reviewed and is now a level 8 honours degree 2 years.

Does a two year level 8 sound right ? has anyone heard of a level 8 for only two years before ?

    thanks for you replies

I'm pretty sure that most of the level 8 Honours Bachelor courses I've heard of are 3/4 years, usually. That said, I don't think there's anything in principle stopping an Honours Bachelor from being only 2 years. I would guess that the most important part would be the amount of credits covered in the degree programme. That may mean you have to cover the same or more material in a shorter space of time, or the credits for the degree were reconfigured, or something along those lines.

There's general info on the National Framework of Qualifications for Ireland on the QQI website, which might be useful. Either way, if they say it's level 8 then you're probably entitled to assume it's level 8.

No, it doesn't sound right. :)

Can you post a link to it?

What you may have is a requirement to have a Level 6 course as a prerequisite as is typical in an Institute of Technology. That would make it 4 years - 2 years for Level 6 and 2 years for Level 8.

They told me that there was no prerequisite qualifications needed. just based on your age and if under 23 they will base your application off the leaving cert. It's a well known college.

2 year level 8 Bachelor degrees are not unheard of. I completed a 2 year LLB in UL, although it was a post-grad course as you had to have a level 8 before being accepted on it. I know Birmingham and Belfast (iirc) offer something similar.

I wonder how potential employers would view a 2 year degree

It depends upon the discipline I suppose.
