If you can get down for the training day you get a great chance to check out the course beforehand.

The bike course is tough & the condition of the roads makes it harder.
Lots of potholes. gravel & some of the roads have grass in the middle of them. It was also long, nearly 4 km long.

Trail shoes would be the most appropriate shoes for the run also.

It's definitely not a PB course anyway.

100% agreed and something I stressed last year after a recce run but people were still caught out.

i was one that listened and was very glad i did. definitely a trial shoe course, especially if you have any events in the following weeks you'd like your ankles intact for

The run was shocking and its about a mile to the road before you really get going on the bike but they did a few things very well.
    - No hassle registration.
    - Transition didnt close for the Olympic even though the Gauntlet had started.
    - Results straight after the race on a print out

I planned on running in Cloudracers, would that be a bad idea?

Zico, its percentages. I'm nowhere near your level but I wouldn't give up any competitive edge by not wearing a trail shoe. The additional traction alone giving surety underfoot can make a big difference.

To my mind most road shoes (and quite a few trail shoes) are too stacked for offroad running. Low to the ground and wide base is the order of the day.

There is a PDF map on the website for the loop used in both the 20k and 40k cycles - I used mapmyride to create a route base on the map.
