Pitch and Putt near Stillorgan

    Hi all,

I play golf and my daughter (10) is taking lessons. She enjoys the time we spend at the range (Leopardstown) but would also like to play some holes. We tried a few holes at Leopardstown but they are too long and quickly became demotivating for her so I'm thinking of bringing her to a proper Pitch and Putt course to begin with until she's getting a bit more distance on her shots at which time we can try some of the Par 3 type courses.

Can anyone recommend a proper Pitch and Putt as opposed to "Par 3" course in the Stillorgan/Stepaside general area?

    Cheers.

There's a bunch of pitch and putts and par 3s all along the road from Stepaside through to Kilternan.

Sandyford pitch and putt (think this may be a par 3).
    The Burrow pitch and putt.
Stepaside Golf Centre - Par 3 and driving range
Pucks Castle pitch and putt (near The Silver Tassie).
Also one opposite Johnnie Fox's pub in Glencullen.

I think this one by the vet there is probably the shortest one of all those par 3s...

The Burrow has a 210 yard hole!

Thanks guys for the suggestions. To start with I'd like to bring her to a proper Pitch and Putt (max 70 metre holes IIRC) so she can have a sense of achievement and not be overwhelmed by holes which are effectively (for her) par 6 or 7's!!

I think this is the one you referred to Joxer - https://goo.gl/maps/sBXlK It's just past Lamb's Cross on the way to Stepaside and is IIRC beside a vet practice.

Think I'll give that one a crack this evening as it's supposed to be nice and sunny this afternoon/evening.

    Cheers.

The Spawell is short enough and as Joxer said, the Sandyford one beside the vets (opposite aikens Village) is shortest of that area.

I think Loughlinstown Pitch n Putt on Commons Road opposite the Hospital is looking fo new players and would be ideal for your daughter.

    Best of luck

That's the one. As Dtoffee says, Spawell is also a nice short one to play.

That's definitely a pitch and putt course even though it's called Sandyford Par 3. Further up the road on the same side is The Burrow which looks a bit longer but I don't think there's much there over 100 yards.

Further on through Stepaside village on the same side of the road as the other two is another pitch and putt course but I have a feeling that it's now closed (driving past, it seems that way, but I could be wrong). Next to that is Stepaside Golf Centre which has the Par 3 course and driving range.

So you could progress up the road as the game improves ;)

Try Jamestown pitch & putt beside the Stepaside golf centre, it's a decent enough course and the holes sound like they're the right range for her.

That's the one I mentioned above but was unsure if it was still going. Thanks for the info.

Thanks everyone, loads of choice. Much appreciated.

Might actually being her out to the Spawell. It sounds like the people who took it over are serious about maintaining it correctly and I'd like her initial experiences to be as positive as possible. My own (very limited) experience of P&P is that some courses are very poorly maintained with poor tee boxes and rough hard greens.

There is actually a 9 hole p&p course in Priory just the opposite side of the n11 from Oatlands School. Entrance at the corner of Priory Ave and Woodlands Ave.

Think it might be only open to members but if your kid is kean it would be a good local option to try join her up

FYI, we played the Spawell yesterday. The centre itself is impressive and the driving bay facilities look good but unfortunately the P&P course is fairly boring and pretty rough, particularly the greens. We enjoyed the experience more as an opportunity to do something together and as a bit of a novelty but I won't be rushing back.

Might try the Burrow course in Stepaside next week. That looks a bit more interesting and better maintained.

Good par 3 up in Marley park too. Greens are all artificial so in good condition year round. 3 sets of tees for each hole bringing lengths from 60 -160 yards roughly

Now that sounds good + artificial greens are possibly better than poorly maintained natural grass greens.

Went up there when I started off, wouldn't recommend it tbh. I think it was something like €20 at the time.
