    Just wondered...

If something arrives in the post, for which duty is to be paid, do An Post issue you with a receipt?

    TIA

    Yes.

Well then I wouldn't pay it unless I got a receipt.

In the past I have An Post hold the goods and send me a letter stating the amount in duty, vat and handing charges due and that the goods will be sent on once I have paid.

many times there is an official sticker with amount due written in. This is applied by customs personel and is valud as a receipt.
