Chinese product imported into Ireland

I recently ordered a Android Phone from China, It was around €120 euro and I opted for the "Netherlands Post" option. (Using AliExpress)

The seller labeled the phone as "Gift" worth €12

Now I have just received a letter from Customs saying they need the details of my purchase so they can validate and charge tax accordingly. My calculations show that total VAT + AnPost fees is around €30, no customs charged as it is under €150

Problem is the package is marked as gift so would there be any kinks in declaring real price? (€120 vs €12) Also just to throw it in there, is there any way to avoid this VAT?

    *Phone is Elephone G7

If you want to receive your phone , you print off the payment receipt , and send it to Customs as outlined in the letter ( PDF by email is fastest )

There won't be any kinks in declaring the purchase price , as its normal for Chinese sellers to label lots of stuff as gifts .
