Hi all, don't know a great deal about these so was wondering if any of you have had any dealings with them. I know a few people who rave about the Punto 1.2, I would assume its the same engine.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

My girlfriend had a 03 Stilo for a few years (and I have a 01 Punto, so can give you somewhat of a comparison).

It is the same engine as the Punto AFAIK, which is a bit of an issue given how much extra body it's lugging around (it's easily 200-300kg heavier). I can't say you get a huge amount more space for that either - maybe a little in the back & boot but certainly not in the front. I'm over 6ft and strangely found it less comfortable to drive than the Punto!

She had a fair few issues with the car too - ended up scrapping it because she was constantly having to get repairs done - though in fairness I think that may have been at least partially because of the way the previous owner treated it.

The Stilo was never one of Fiat's finest moments and I cannot imagine they got better as they got older. There are more terrible ones out there than good ones so if it were me I'd be looking at something else.

Thanks for the info will be staying clear of them so. How was the punto ? I'm just looking for a small engined car 20 miles a day commute, Seat Ibiza, Punto, Corsa type car.

I've had mine since 2009, and done maybe 60k miles in that time, and I have to say I've been very happy with it.

Fiat has a bad rap and the Punto in particular was known for giving trouble (head gasket, mainly) but I think they got their act together in the early 2000s.

When mine was in its prime it was a really nippy thing, fun to drive and handy to get around in. It's on the way out now but that's after me learning to drive in it (doing all sorts of damage in the process!), not looking after it as I should have, having a fender-bender in it 3 years ago and generally driving the arse out of it.

I'll be looking to replace it soon and will certainly give the Grande Punto a look (along with the likes of the Ibiza, Corsa etc).

What year stilo were you interested in and does it have a full service history?
    Mileage?
I had a 1.2 petrol and it was faultless for 3 years.
Though it had 6 gears it still returned 42 mpg as per the on board computer.
Regarding the boot space, the back seat can move forwards to increase the boot size.
Above the glove compartment is a cooler/hot box depending on your heating settings.(It is well hidden, took about 2 weeks to accidently find)
Do a search on boards for the stilo for a more informative feedback.
    I had the Fiat 850,Fiat 128,uno, punto 97,bravo 2001,Stilo 2003 and currently Bravo 2008 sport.
The importance when buying Fiat is the service history as they like the correct oils etc.

I hadn't my eye on one as such, but have seen them available at good money, and hearing good things about the Punto, thought the Stilo might have been an alternative. Still hunting so will take all your points on board, cheers.
