Hi,wondering if some of you out there have been in my shoes. Have recently applied for a job within the HSE, I have filled out my Garda clearance for Ireland & given it in. I have spend 20 years in America so I need to get security clearance via the FBI. Having been on their website can anyone tell me if what I need is 'identity history summary checks' whereas I need to do fingerprints etc.. If so can you please let me know what you did...did u print out the fingerprint form and just go to a local Garda station for them to take them... How did you fair out with filling out form etc.... It seems a bit daunting at the moment. I know too well that these things must be 100% as I'm sure they will send straight back something that is a small bit wrong as it is the FBI of the United States.. If someone can take me thru what they did to obtain overseas clearance from USA would be a great help. Thank you.

Do you live near Dublin. A friend had to do this about 5 years ago and he went to the embassy in Dublin. He rang them first to make an appointment.

This came up in a recent conversation I had with an American friend, who also needs Garda clearance.

She was at the local Garda station this week to get finger-printed.

If you send the fingerprints to the FBI, everything has to be sent by post (including their response), and it can take months to get clearance.

My friend is using a private company (approved by the FBI) to do the clearance, it's more expensive to do it this way but it's much faster and they give details on how the application is processing.

Would you be able to PM me the name of the company?

    Thanks.

The company is CogentID (part of the 3m group)

Here's the link about applying if you live outside the USA:
