    hi

ive read a few posts about TUS but havent found the answer im looking for.
i recently received a letter/form about signing up for TUS.

I am unemployed for just over 12 months now so presume this was one of the reasons I got this.

Over the last 6 weeks or so I have had plenty of job seeking activity, ie: a lot more interest in me and currently at the final stages with 2 companies.

In the form I sent back, I declined participation in TUS, explaining that I currently cannot afford to pay my mortgage and couldnt possibly afford to be on the dole (or on TUS) for another 12 months. And that with some luck, will have a job within the next 2 months.

Got a response back which to me is basically a threatening letter saying that tough. not a good enough excuse, you must participate in TUS.

So I sent off the form again saying ok i will go for TUS interview etc.

I suppose I have a few concerns. The jobs I am applying for are for salaries in the region of €60k/€70k+. From what I have seen, none of the potential roles available on TUS match my skills/qualifications. So from that point of view I don't see a benefit for my career.

If it is purely to help out in the community, I have been using my skills voluntarily to do this for the past 12 months with a local charity.

Say for example, I don't get a full-time job from these interviews and am told to take up a 19.5 hour TUS placement for €208 per week. How am I supposed to pay 19.5 hours+ of childcare on €208 and also be expected to live?

I'm the type of person who needs to keep occupied (hence my volunteer work) and also the type of person that loves to upskill (masters etc), but in this case I feel that TUS may just be there to massage the figures and not take into account individual circumstances.

Am i looking at this all wrong?

Hi I just had a tus meeting today and I told them I had a child and they asked me would child care be a problem and I said no, because it's not so I'm thinking if I had said yes they might have sorted something for childcare for me. You will not know unless you go for the meeting, as far as I'm aware if you find a job in the middle of a tus scheme you are entitled to stop tus and go working.

Go to your appointment they have set up for you & explain your situation to the Team Leaders you meet with. Most are very understanding & will give you advice. First meetings are very informal. Best of luck

Did they cut your payment when you declined to participate?

Can you finish up with the TUS community work placement before the 12 months if you get either full time or part time work?

    Thanks

Yeah if your signing off the JSA then there’s nothing to stop you finishing up.

At an interview for a job can you use your Tus job in your cv and a reference from the place of tus work?

Yes but might be better to leave out the TUS part, just say it was a 12 month contract.

Anyone explain why somebody from Limerick city be on the Ballyhoura TUS scheme?

    Interview in Cappamore.

That 19.5 hours per week will be much higher and transport be awkward.
