we are going to Australia in June for six weeks. Although I will have some money to bring I will need to take out money while we are over there. Will my visa debit card work in ATM's or would I be better off frontloading my credit card?

Check out your bank fees for taking out money abroad, mine were 2.75% with decent FX rates which i was ok with for a short period. Your visa debit should work in Australia.

I also had a halifax clarity credit card with no fees and FX rates. Not sure if available to ROI but there may be something similar that is better than your current credit card.
