Great Ireland Run 2015 setup

    Hi

I did the Great ireland run on Saturday and found it both a tough and enjoyable experiance and enjoyed being able to run with such a great level of runners.

I was rather surprised that a none of the top runners from my club ran it and seems the same for a lot of clubs, i know their are other 10k around the place, but surely the top runners of all clubs would like to run with the top runners of the country. I suppose heading to Dublin for a 10k race is not ideal for most if you can drive a few miles down the road for a local one

I recorded the race on sky plus and watch it later and the setup needs to change somewhat

It is a bit bizarre to see the leading men running though the ladies towards the end of the race. Surely they could either have everyone start at the same time or just let the elite ladies off 15 minutes before or even 30 minutes before
With a few KM to go i saw the 4th place athlete forcefully push one of the ladies out of the way. even though she was not causing any problems?

great race though, will do it again

She was in his way, she was closing a gap that the guys in front had just run through. But it didn't look particularly forceful, he moved her out of the way

There is a discussion going on about this in another thread
Home - Sports Athletics / Running - Great Ireland Run Elite Entries Released
(sorry I cant post links because I'm a new user).

They do send elite ladies off 15 mins (I think its 15 mins beforehand). The problem is that some clearly non-elite (45 min+) runners join the elite ladies pen. I don't know why.

    Great event other than that!

The AAI National 10k Championship women runners start with the elite women, just as the championship men start with the elite men

This is a great event in my view, pity to see numbers fall. Really well organised, tough course with a bit everything - even a herd of deer this year .., very fitting venue and live TV for a National championship too. What could be better, maybe a bit of coverage of irish racers and timing re the womens event . Only once a year no reason why all club runners cannot do it , loads from the West and Inishowen had huge numbers.

I've never run the race and don't really have any future intentions of doing so. From what I've seen on tv though, I'd imagine the tough course coupled with having to negotiate your way through walkers on the narrow roads through the furry glen is enough to put a lot of runners off. This is especially the case when there are other (faster) 10ks on the same weekend. Those are my thoughts anyway. Others probably won't agree.

Fair enough it probably wrong to say forcefoully, but he clearly pushed her and he was totally out of sync with the other 3 runners who didn't seem to mind running around then, she kept her line as she is entitled to do, he seemed to think he was the only one entitled to it, however this is a problem for organisers and so on.
They should only have elite ladies running at the earlier time and not anyone who is running anything over 40 minutes.

when the 4 leading men were coming up the finish line, they were surrounded by loads of other finishers,

a great race though, maybe the easiest option is to run the lades and men together in this day and age of equality

There were many other races on the same day and this definitely hurt numbers.

For example, there was a 10mile race in Cobh on Sunday that Sonia O' Sullivan ran in and this definitely effected Munster numbers.

I wish there were no other races that weekend, that would have encouraged more to travel. It started at lunch so gave people time to travel. It's not everyday the race is live on tv and you're running with the best!

Does anyone else know where we can browse through the photos? (besides the site?)

Got an email to say photos taken dotted around the course were online but can't find them? Have any other photographers uploaded pictures?
