Disposal Of Old Tractor Diesel

I have inherited an old diesel tank sitting in the yard with diesel in it about 10 years, hardly ever used I'd say.
Would an oil company take off my hands as I'm afraid of leaks. It's in an old steel tank As well.

Welcome to boards, great first post, what part of the country are you in? I'd say any farmer would dispose of that easily enough.:)

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Based in Cork. The tank is ancient and the diesel is there over 10 years hence want it emptied asap.
Spoke to a neighbour, said there might be water in it so not sure if it would be suitable to use.
Just wondering if any oil company would take it at this stage.

Strain it through a pair of tights, and you'll be grand. :D

I have an old (but sound) tank that I throw old slops of diesel & creosote etc into and can stand up about 40 posts in. Leave them there for 6 months or so.

Decant the water and gunk lying on the bottom of the tank out of it and strain it. Be grand.

Tractor engines will run on a lower grade of diesel than a car would tolerate anyway, they're not fussy.

On a serious note, do not use this stuff in any tractor with a modern common rail diesel injection system.
older stuff, with lucas/cav or bosch pumps only.

I put old oil or diesel onto my turf when I bring it home in the summer. Say 18 months later when burning it anything has well soaked in.

I used diesel that my father had stockpiled during the Iran Iraq War. It was in a New plastic tank about 5000 litres of it . I used it in a six cylinder Perkins engine and also a TW15. It had been there for fifteen years .

I'll try the recycling centres. Thanks for all the options.

Old diesel like that is ideal for cleaning up machinery parts. Any tractor mechanic or guy that refurbishes old tractors or machinery might be glad of it.

Less than half a tank I'd say.
