flow switch problems?

I have a pressurised water system fitted in my house, but lately I was hearing a loud squeak when there was a sudden draw on the water (toilet flushing). Upon further investigation i noticed that the circulation pump was coming on when the cold tap was being used. The purpose of the pump is to pump hot water from the cylinder through a heat exchanger and heat the cold water coming in to the hot press. On the cold feed there is a non return valve, lever valve, strainer and flow switch which, (all in this order) when detects the flow turns on the pump when hot water is required.

Why would the circulation pump be coming on when the cold water is being used? I have replaced the non return valve thinking this was loosing water backwards and tricking the flow switch to come on but it has not worked.

    Any ideas?

It's possible for water to pass at a mixing tape/thermostatic shower etc..., enough possibly that when the cold water pressure drops the hot water can pass activating the flow switch.

I tried this with the bath which has a separate hot and cold tap, no mixer, and still the same. I thought changing the non return valve would sort it. it never done this before.

It doesn't have to be the tap your using, opening any cold tap would result in loss of pressure equlisation across the hot and the cold.

Can you isolate the hot outlet taking the taps out of the equation?

I will try it this evening, there is a lever valve supplying the rest of the house so I can turn that off and see what happens.
