    Aldi Garmin

Is this actually a sat nav or just for tracking your cycle?

Tracking only. Its a decent enough unit for most people, but if you are in any way serious about cycling, save your money and get a better one. This doesn't support the HRM for example.

Agreed. I have the 500 - it replaced the basic standard cateye odometer/speedometer.

I don't really see the point of the 200. Now I haven't looked into it much but it just seems to me to sit in a no-mans land between cheap speedometer/odemeter and a cadence/hrm/gps system??

Ok so it may be perfect for me, but what is the HRM??

I bought on for my old man. I think he'll like having a look at maps after he's cycled.

I was under the impression that you can load maps in and it will tell you roughly when the next turn is. Basic, but possibly useful...

    Heart Rate Monitor.

As said, it's a great unit but lacking a little bit on the more serious stuff. But I've seen new cyclists look at spending €50 on a bag standard speedometer, so if you're looking to buy one but can't justify €200+ on the more expensive units, then this is the way to go.

You don't really need one with navigation, my 500 has basic navigation and I've never used it. I usually roughly know my route beforehand, and you always have your phone on you if you get really lost.

Just hitting the road and taking random turns and getting lost is fun anyway.

Use a Garmin 200 for club spins and long solo spins and events

If you are not looking at training (e.g. interval training in different heart rate zones/ working on progressively pushing bigger gears with consistent cadence) it is ideal imo. Very simple to use in conjunction with Strava, Garmin Connect and you can export routes from Ride with GPS/ Garmin Connect onto the Garmin 200 which will give you a breadcrumb trail to follow. As it is a small compact unit, there is some switching involved to see different readings but small gripes for such a useful unit.
