What are you improving on?

Just thought I'd start a thread about self improvement for men.

I've let myself slide the past couple of years. I've done well in some areas (finished my degree, new job) but :
    1. Fitness has gone down a bit
    2. Spend too much and dont budget
    3. Back living at home
    4. Don't read as much as I'd like

I think everyone should always try to be a little better than they were yesterday. I want to improve in these areas and also maybe do some charity work in the near future (not sure what though).

What do you need to improve on? :)

    - Fukuyama

Fitness. I'm not huge or anything but it's something I've been neglecting.

On what I actually do, I read a lot and meditate from time to time. It's a great way of dealing with stress.

I've been sort of neglecting myself lately. Work is being good but busy and we're in the process of hopefully buying a house. So all good but very busy.

When we hopefully move I have a few things I want to do.

    1. Fitness - used be good before and do a decent amount of weights and other general fitness. Bit crazy stuff but it made me far fitter and feeling good. Have my own bench and weights so will get back to that.

    2. Get to know new people - We are moving to a new area in the countryside so I'll be looking to join groups, clubs, societies that allow me to get to know the locals.

    3. Yoga and meditation. After looking at my physical and social sides I should look after my mental side so this would be good.

Good to see im not the only guy who needs working on the aul fitness, started pre season for rugby in toronto and only realised how far ive dropped after not doing a tap for 5 months, was the fittest player at home :(
So joined a gym now going to try get three days a week, with one training session and one game making five fitness days in total
Need some serious budgeting done, was a bit crazy for a while so need focusing on that
and to search for a job more suited to me, so handing out resumes again :o

Awesome idea for a thread. For me there are a lot of areas to work on but that's not a bad thing

    1. Fitness-This is something that is actually alright but I want to make better. Tennis and refereeing rugby (and tag) are fantastic but I want to run a marathon by the end of next year so getting into running. I can run about 6 k non-stop but have to improve that considerably. Am doing a 8 week 5 to 10k program from tomorrow so hopefully that goes well!

    2. College- Had to drop out of NUIG in 3rd year due to a lot of personal issues. Got offered a place as a mature student in NUI Maynooth for teaching so will be going straight into second year and plan to hit the ground running.

    3. Living at home-It's alright but I hope to move out in the summer to either Kilcock, Maynooth or Leixlip.

    1. Study.
I'm finishing up first year of a 2 year part time H.Dip and I know I haven't worked as hard as I should have this year... which is likely gonna result in a 2.2 or low 2.1 if I'm lucky for this year. I need at least a 2.1 when I finish next year, so gotta pull my socks up for the next 12 months on that.

    2. Fitness.
I used to be ridiculously fit. Weightlifted for years, got huge, then got more functional, then got into MMA... fell apart about 16 months ago though with a load of personal ****. I've barely worked out in that time, but still *look* very good. Want to get back to feeling fit again though, so doing some running and bodyweight and kettlebell work the last few weeks.

    3. Chill.
Last couple years have been rough, so I'm trying to make an effort to make more 'me' time. Recently started a mindfulness course too, which is pretty good. Considering a holistic holiday during the summer for a change as well.

    4. Career.
Currently in a job I hate and am trying to move from. But the H.Dip I'm doing is also designed to help me change careers completely in 2-3 years time. It'll be a long, hard road but I need to at least try it and see if I can do it.

    1. fitness

Just have to get off my butt and start doing something im starting to gain the dreaded beer belly and want to fight it before it becomes a hopeless fight

    2 Driving

i need to start driving, ive put it off for so long cause im a bit terrified cause im known to daydream a lot need to snap out of it and do it.

    3. Career

seems like im kinda stuck in a rut in work same thing every day. need to deciede wheather to stick with this job if theres a chance of moving forward or start to look for a new one or im never never going to devlop my career

Fitness and weight: same as everyone else, need to get the fitness and strength up to where it was when I was playing rugby.
Activities: seems like all my leisure activities revolve around going to the pub at the weekend and spending the next day in a heap. Need to get out and occupy myself with other things, cutdown on the gargle and get things done.

Again fitness is my number one priority. Going to hit the gym this summer and finally build muscle and cardio.

Trying new things : you'd be amazed at what you can achieve. I took up soccer for the first time last year and have become a decent player.

Going to try out some yoga something I would have thought was only for women.

Reading. Particularly on history. 2 or 3 years ago a book would be my worse enemy.

Donate to a charity. When I get a job I'm going to make a load of donations. I hate having money when no one else can benefit from it.

Just joined the gym. Gonna start eating properly and build muscle. Tired of being weak and pathetic. We're all gonna make it lads.

Seems like fitness is a common trend here! I definitely plan on posting here when I meet milestones.

Spending tonight with Spotify blaring through the headphones while getting a financial plan together. Its amazing what tuning out the world can do for your mood - felt **** when I got home from work but now I want to take on the world. >:D

Fitness for me too but I've an as of now unscheduled hernia operation to get over with first. I used to jog twice a week and play football once a week so it's been very frustrating that I haven't been able to do anything for six months for fear of making my hernia worse. Next doctor's appointment is 18th May and hopefully I'll be one more step closer to getting the operation over and done with. I have been on a diet since the start of the year and it's going well so have lost a bit of weight but I miss being active.

Related to the above, just get my health back. Have a circumcision on Thursday and then the hernia operation at some point. Haven't had any comparable health issues previously so it's been frustrating and depressing, tbh. I just want to feel healthy again.

Have decided to pack in my job when my contract ends soon enough and study a masters in a different field. I've a good job and it's really comfortable but it's just not what I want to do for the rest of my life and the longer I stay, the less likely I am to leave so I need to just go for it. It's scary, tbh, but it's something I need to do for my own sanity.

Apart from the above, I'm happy with the other stuff in miy life.
