I am currently with eircom non fibre. Just 24mb,im very very unhappy with it . Basically I cant play online games its too laggy.

So im guessing vodafone and sky will be the same as they use the same lines ? Or could it be a big improvement over eircom

highly unlikely, you need low pings for games, so you could get profile changed ie lower speed may give lower pings.

I did a speed test today and ping was 25. Its often as high as 80-90 tho.

Are you telling me if I ask them to put me on a slower speed package that the ping could be lower?

It won't be lower. If your lines qualifies for the highest profile ( 24Mb ) you can get fastpath, this makes pings very low, around 11 ms to boards or rte.ie for example. The problem you're experiencing is crappy congestion on Eircom at peak hours more than likely, I've been fighting with them over it being a gamer too.

Few months ago I changed to Vodafone in the hope I could game online at night, all was fine at the start but now its even worse than the Eircom connection. Both companies seem to suffer from bad congestion at peak hours/poor routing and it's essentially useless for gaming.

I'm in the process of trying to cancel my Vodafone contract and try switching to Sky in the minimalist chance its any better, I highly doubt it.

Word of warning keep away from Vodafone, they changed my profile speed after the cooling down period ended and now im stuck with crap ping 24/7. Also their support is horrible.

Also how can they get away with this? Know one else in europe I see playing has unstable pings at peak hours, how come its always Irish isps. It's a joke, wish I could get UPC. I have to sit at my pc from 8 to 11.30 each night waiting for my connection to be stable enough so online games work, its a farce. I thought NGB was meant to be uncongested.. total bs

ya I play on xbox one and most games are laggy between 9 and 12 at night but fifa 15 is laggy all day long , I mean I literally cant play the game. so that's Vodafone out of the question . all my hope lies with sky.

any time I play with French or English etc there connection is unreal, 7ping some of them told me

Moved to Sky (24Mb) from Vodafone (8Mb) on the same line and never looked back.
However I would be looking at download speeds rather than response times.
Also It was €15 per month cheaper at the time

25ms on ADSL is very good, you must be quite close to your BAS. 55ms+ wouldnt be atypical.

Do your speed tests read consistently throughout the day? If so the most likely culprit is transit. Most of the time your hosts will be UK or mainland europe. If the links under the irish sea get busy you're a gonner.

There're building a new link from Canada to Cork and onwards which will be the fastest individual run in the world when complete, but thats a long way off.

Skys worth a shot, you'll be running on BTs network, might be better but there have been similar complaints made about them previously.

No theyre not consistent atal. Could get 60 ping an hour later and 80 an hourlater again. Do sky do that thing where you can test there broadband for 21 days without contract?

Then the issue is more local. What exchange are you on?

Its NGB and NGA. Speeds should be consistent to local test servers.

Troubleshoot this with eircom. Your line might be over provisioned or there may be something else going on, either way they'll be able to tell more than we can here.
