Hey lads. First time user so bare with me.

I am an RDF recruit at the moment and will be passing out as a pte soon. I am currently a first year law student but hate the field. Im considering applying for a cadetship at the moment, and failing that, general enlistment with the goal of getting overseas and perhaps doing a night course or degree through the army on return with the end goal of getting a cadetship (I'm 19 so have a few years until I'm 27).

I would appreciate any advice from people who have gone the general service route and been successful in gaining a cadetship. What educational opportunities are available within the PDF?

Finally, regarding the medical corp, do they recruit separately or do you apply after completing 3 star training?

Thanks in advance for the help and apologies if this query has been posted in the wrong tread!

Get your education sorted first mate. The army no longer offers the same perks and bonuses that it did to those who joined in my day with little or no education. If you dont like your current course, change now while you can and try something else. Do not join the army with the hoppe that you will get to do a degree course 'through' the army.

By 'through', I assume you mean the army will foot the bill for it? Sorry to burst your bubble mate but in real life this just doesnt happen anywhere near often enough to warrant you taking the chance/risk of walking away from your education now.

If the advice of someone who has been around a bit in this army counts for anything to you, stay in college (not nessecarily on your current course), get your degree, stay fit and stay active in the RDF and enjoy your time as a reservist. It will stand to you later.

With an education behind you, you will have options and some life experience and you willl also be a more attractive candidate when you interview for the cadtes.

Alternately, you could jack in college now, enllist as a recruit, spend 5 years in the army and end up hating it, then leave the army with nothing but regrets and very few options.
