Vetting a vet for our holiday

I'm taking my dog on holidays for a couple of weeks later in the year. I've a first aid kit for her and have sussed out the nearest vets but wondered if I should phone them in advance to get a feel for what they're like. Any general thoughts from owners/vet types?

Do your dogs have any current medical conditions?

You are over worrying, more importantly have you contacted the nearest hospital to get a feel of what they are like?
    Your pets depend on you.
