My underlying question is...do men feel as guilty for cheating as women? I ask this question as about 10 yrs ago I had a one night fling with a guy who was in a relationship. I was in a relationship also. We both knew we had significant others at the time. I still feel incredibly guilty on all accounts. Do men feel the same or do they even think twice about it?

Why the need to generalise? I know conservative men and women and up for it men and women and a lot of people in between. No two people will react to a situation in the same way. I am what I am and what I am needs no excuses as the song says.

Please forgive yourself OP, you did something you wish you hadn't. That happens in all walks of life. It's not healthy to dwell on something like this for so long. You need to move on

10 years is a long time to be beating yourself up over something. There is no gender divide when it comes to guilt or lack of. Some people just aren't particularly bothered about cheating. On the other hand, there are people like you who've made that mistake and wont ever do it again because of the remorse and the guilt.

Is there any particular reason why you're asking the question now? Did it ruin the relationship you were in at the time or is it having repercussions to this day?

I imagine all people are different and there is not rule with regard to the different sexes.
Still feeling guilty 10 years later is significant.
The fact that you are still guilty, is it that you are still in the same relationship with the guy you cheated on? Have you met the guy you cheated with recently to conjure up guilt?
Can you remember why you cheated, as in was it a drunken mistake or was there something wrong in your relationship at the time but you got over it?
Are you having doubts in your currnet relationship now?
There are a lot of questions(which you dont need to answer) but it may get to the root of why you are still feeling guilty and maybe put it away for good..
