Can anyone please explain to me as to what is NEW within the announcement regarding Diabetes, within the latest massively heralded new GP visit scheme.
As stated by Minister Varadka on the Pat Kenny show you will be included if you hold a current Medical or GP visit card, this however is already the Status Quo so What's New if you are PAYE then you have still got to pay through the nose 2-3 visits a year..
    Any information kindly received.....

We were trying to decipher this in work.
Essentially- those who have not been entitled to GP visits, medical cards or other assistance- will for the first time- be entitled to free GP care for their under 6s from the 13th of July.

From the 13th of July- free GP care will not be means tested for the under 6s and the over 70s- they will be on a level footing with those who have been entitled to free or subsidised primary level care.

So- its free for all under 6s and over 70s from the 13th of July. If there was a small charge previously- its free. If you were a PAYE employee with no entitlements whatsoever, and had to pay 80 quid per visit- its free.

There is a stated intention that only 3 visits per year per person are to be covered- as otherwise people who wouldn't ordinarily have visited their GP with minor complaints and ailments- will now swamp surgeries.

The press release that announced the development is here.

thank you Conductor, basically if you are PAYE nothing has changed you still pay full whack and subsidise the medical card holders...

If you are a PAYE employee- and have children under the age of 6- your children will get 3 free visits to the GP every year- where currently you have to pay for them. Thats the difference. After that- yes, you pay the same taxes- yes, government will spend your taxes on social welfare etc. No- you have no say in the matter.

So- if you have kids under the age of 6- you get 3 visits per year free. Or if you're a wealthy old age pensioner- you are no longer means tested for free GP visits (and I'm not sure that anyone has mentioned a maximum number of visits for pensioners). The end.
