Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I've recently moved into Clontarf, and thought I'd check out joining the tennis club.... I was a bit shocked by the price, around €500!

Is this top end in Dublin, or are they all up around that? not really encouraging the average hitter.

Leinster I know is only 220 for squash . that's damn cheap, guessing if you wanted to join for tennis it would be similar.
Fitzwilliam is about 2000 yr and you have to put 1000 credit into the bar.

Is there not a rule with Sutton though, that a new member can only be added if they are referred by an existing senior member or something like that?

No idea, i was not a member, but a member of another club at the time playing a tournament there.

One thing put me off joining Sutton and that is the all white rule. I am not a big fan of that rule. not sure on the other rule though. I was there one year for a floodlit league match and they had 2 temporary indoor courts for the winter, do they still do that?

I was out there looking at membership, it didn't say anything about needing to know an existing member, I know Fitz has that and some other places. I'd say though if you met with them and had a chat you'd probably be fine.

be carefull with Sutton - its not sheltered at all and gets fierce windy there.

Plus they have a bs whites only rule (such utter pretentious tosh) and are a bit clicky.

Mount Pleasent in Ranaleigh is a fantastic club - very sheltered, good bar, no bs "whites only" rule and great members.

A good few places have opens for any level, mixed doubles, you can show up on your own and take part for about 5 euro, I went to one in Mount Pleasant, it'll be a mix of members and non members. There is usually food and a drink or two in the bar after. It's a good way to see the club and the members. There will usually be a person there to give info about membership but it's not a hard sell.

I was surprised at Mount Pleasant when I first went there, the quietness of the club was what surprised me most considering its location so close to the city centre.
