    Hi,

I have been having problemswith my Automatic 2001 E200.

    1. Gear shift not moving out of 'Parking' gear. I manually have to override this each time with a help of a screwdriver.
    2. Reverse lights dont come on.

Mechanic has spent guts of 7 weeks with car either waiting for second hand parts or trying to fix the reverse light issue. I am taking back car as NCT is pending and I cannot trust this guy to get it fixed at this stage. He has ordered and replaced the gear selector sensor and also the switch for the lights.

What n ext? Any suggestions welcome.

Can anyone recommend a good mechanic who knows Mercedes preferably on the southside.

    Thanks

    A livid E200 user

You may have more than one issue. I assume it's a W210 model and they still use a cable connected to the ignition plus the signal from the brake light switch to allow it to come out of park. The brake light switch can go faulty, yet the brake lights still work.

For the reverse lights I would also check the wiring where the cables enter the boot near the hinges for fraying/ chafing etc. obviously don't overlook the fuses. This should be a straightforward thing to diagnose with the proper kit.
