I am runninmg my first marathon on May 3rd and doing my last long run this Saturday April 11th.
My run will be 22 miles.
What should I do next weekend as a longish run, I was thinking maybe 12 miles and 6 miles the weekend before the marathon
    Any advice would be appreciated

I wouldn't cut down as severely as that. You want to taper enough to keep all your legs and fitness ticking over but still have recovery. Something like this would be a lot better:

    22m
    16m
    12m

After a good block of marathon training, a 12 mile long run a week out shouldn't take much out of you but it will keep you from going stale before the race.

Similar dilemma, hope you don't mind me hijacking?!

Running my first marathon in Limerick. I ran 20 miles on Good Friday. Planning 15 this Sunday and maybe 10 the following weekend.

    Getting nervous already.

What were your long distance to date?

Without knowing your training, ability, strengths and weaknesses I would do something like:

    22-18-13-MARATHON

Reduce the miles, keep the intensity ticking over (strides can be helpful) and eat/sleep like a Monk!

The idea is to keep sharp during taper and to be fresh to come race day.

Seems sensible Dublin Runner though I'd advise a newbie to knock a couple miles off each those so 18-20, 15-16, 10-11 but we're kind of splitting hairs here. I'd say the OP gets the idea

Hope you don't mind me jumping in here but try not to get too uptight about it. It's just wasted energy afterall :)

Maybe try a spot of bowling or table tennis the night before, they're good distractors I find!!

Yeah, wouldn't disagree. Just don't slash the miles too much as many do (including myself last time!).
