Not sure if plumbing is the correct forum (perhaps it should be building?) but I am wondering what kind of professional do I need to contact to repair my domestic sewage treatment tank?

Also if anyone has any recommendations around the Galway/Mayo area I would be grateful.

It would help to know what make of system have you got. Most of the Manufacturers have service agents carrying out repairs and service checks. So if you contact the manufacturers they should sort you out.

Thanks Sky, that is part of the problem I think. It's a Biotech system. I believe they're not trading in Ireland anymore. Despite the presence of a website that suggests otherwise.

What's wrong with it or is causing you concern.

    It overflowed.

Got it emptied and it seemed to be mostly water. I had a good look at it today and there is a pump that pumps the water to the percolation area. It is not working. There is also a compressor type thing that aerates the 'water'. It works but trips the breaker every few minutes.

I found both the pump and compressor are plugged into a weatherproof box in the top of the tank using ordinary plug tops. This box is soaked, I emptied about a half pint of water out of it.

Tomorrow I'm going to fit new plug tops and try the pump/compressor on an extension lead. If they work I'll replace the electrical box and I'm done. I hope.

If not I'll be getting a professional.

It seems like it's an electrical fault is the main problem. So an Electrician might be the answer. Make sure to turn off all power at the Board to protect yourself. As you will be working in a wet environment and better to be safe.

Thanks for the advice sky. As far as I can see pump is not working and compressor trips the RCD.

I got the name of a fella that specialises in this stuff so I'll be ringing tomorrow...

You have an earth leak so somewhere. It could be a short in the pump if it;s not running. Let's know how you get on with it.
