Asking a potential Referees for their opinion

Im applying for a job, that requires 2 referees from my college. Nearly all my classes have 200-400 students in them and they are nearly all half terms. So literally none of the lecturers know us personally. So Im going to supply one lecturers name, as I have had him for the entire year and 2.1 in both of his exams.

Although the only other lecturer that might be worth asking as a referee, as I have had the lecturer for 2 years and there is a handful of us in the class. Im literally the only one who is always in class, although quite late sometimes and my grades are about average. Although the lecturer isnt Irish and very blunt. Im afraid of what they might tell the potential employer

Is it acceptable to ask the lecturer can I expect a good reference? As if the answer is no, I can just use a lecturer that doesnt know me personally, but I got a good grade in their class

Don't think it's appropriate to ask for a "good" reference but the worked it was

I asked two lecturers , have had them both for 2.5 semesters with similar grades to you. I've talked to them and presented in class for them too a few times but they both probably have 200-300 students each so I'd say it would be hard to remember small details about me. I'd say the reference they'd give would be less personal and more about the type of students the produced by the uni at graduation plus some details of the modules and stuff students of your course should know.
