Renewed license, is renewal valid from now?

So my License expires tomorrow, got to the NDLS centre this morning, after trying for an appointment, but the first was end of may/june!

anyway, the woman in the centre wouldnt be drawn on whether my license is still valid to drive on, or whether i could produce the receipt to a Gard if i was requested. all she would say is that its a receipt to say you were at the centre renewing.

So my question is, Am I still entitled to drive after tomorrow, as i have paid the money, and submitted the form to the relevant authority, or can i not drive until i receive my new license, in a week...or two as i was advised, or in 6-8 weeks as i have heard happening, or never as it might get "lost" in the post

I doubt you'll get a clear unambiguous answer on the finer legalities. Even the relevant Minister fudged an answer
This practice may raise concerns regarding the legal requirement to produce a licence when requested by a member of An Garda Síochána. If the person cannot produce the licence at the time, the law allows ten days in which to produce it at a Garda station. In most cases, if a licence is in process, this is sufficient time for the new licence to arrive. Where it is not, the Gardaí may choose to exercise discretion.

Also I should probably get in before the brigade of "I never understand why people wait until x days before their license/nct/tax etc is up for renewal before they go to get it then complain" etc etc etc

Going on the fact I haven't seen a checkpoint in well over 18 months and that all my other documents are in order I imagine I'll be fine, but I'm not the type to drive with expired tax, so I'd rather not be driving on an expired license even if the risk of getting caught is negligible

But even if you go plenty early, the current system forces everyone to drive without carrying license for the period that the licence is being processed. That is a sloppy system and never should have been implemented in that manner.

Another RSA brain child just like NCT test is from anavesary to anavesary with backlogs resulting in many having no NCT for a period of time.

    Indeed that's pure nonsense.
You can renew your licence only up to 3 months before expiry date.

I'm guessing that everywhere else (outside Ireland) you can renew it anytime you wish. But in Ireland it has to be only during those 3 months which might cause trouble for some people.
