    Hi All,

Had a good look around but cant seem to find a straight answer. We are looking at moving to Aus next year. Possibly as early as end of August 2016. Am I entitled to claim back the tax and usc paid here in 2016 when I leave?

    Thanks in advance

Straight answers other than "it depends" are almost impossible.

If you are employed, and paying PAYE, then you will probably be able to get a refund of some, but certainly not all, of the PAYE you will have paid at the time you leave.

That's because your annual credits are split into 12 equal amounts, and you would only have used 8/12 ths of the total by August. So there's 1/3rd unused and available to provide a refund.

But if your credits are wrong, for whatever reason, then you might not get anything back. If you've read other threads in this forum you will see that people can end up owing Revenue money if the PAYE system hasn't worked properly.

Assuming you are PAYE earner. each month you are taxed at 1/12 of your earnings as you are expected to be working here for 12 months. As you may only be working here for 7 months of calendar, you will be entitled to some repayment. Please note, some tax and usc, not all. You are only entitled to it all back if you earned below a minimum threshold. (12k i think please fact check)
